Post-rock has been losing dynamics from the day it was found. It's creators never stopped drifting into jazz, electronica or experimental harbours and few heroes left on the field of battle for groove switched to either metal heavyness or math-rock insanity. Of course it was all acroding to old rule: be original or die. But as a result, riffs and rythms were no longer a driving force for evolving genre.Under these circumstances, it is twice delightful to find an artist who simply loves to rock without lyrics. Jordi Ruiz, a talented Spanish guitarist and producer has chosen quite straightforward formula. He simply filled debut album 'Polaris' with old-fashioned walls of sound supported by high-speed drumming. However, things are not as simple as they may seem: in fact this release is mainly a digital creation. To make it clear: only guitars here are real; the rest was made by computers supported with human creativity.
The results are a bit confusing: Ruiz's music sometimes reaches the shores of greatness, but sometimes falls prey to it's repeatability. However, his very first track sounds good enough to get into my mp3 player and remain there for couple of weeks. Or maybe even longer?
